GHOSTLIGHT RECORDS, a division of Sh-K-Boom Records, is proud to announce the release of the Original Cast Recording of Vanities: A New Musical, based on the original 1976 play by Jack Heifner. Directed by Tony Award winner Judith Ivey, the show features music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum with a book by Mr. Heifner. The album, whose cast boasts the acclaimed actresses Lauren Kennedy, Sarah Stiles and Anneliese van der Pol, is available digitally wherever digital music
is sold, and from the Ghostlight Records website on December 15, 2009. Wider physical release will be early 2010. The album was produced by Grammy-winning music producer Joel Moss.

The recording includes liner notes by Melissa Rose Bernardo of Entertainment Weekly, a synopsis by playwright-bookwriter Jack Heifner, and all the lyrics by songwriter David Kirshenbaum, as well
as full-color photos from the off-Broadway production.

Vanities: A New Musical traces the relationship of three friends, Mary (Lauren Kennedy), Joanne (Sarah Stiles) and Kathy (Anneliese van der Pol) as they transition from small town girls in Texas to college students and finally grown women with careers, children, marriages and conflicts. The show was originally produced at TheatreWorks in Palo Alto, California in 2006. The musical won the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards for Best Score and Best Musical and after that moved to the Pasadena Playhouse in California where Variety claimed it "may well outshine the three-decade prominence of Jack Heifner's original."

In July of 2009 Vanities made its New York City debut Off-Broadway at the Second Stage Theatre where TheaterMania praised Kirshenbaum's "eclectic pop score", The New York Times praised the cast's "strong, appealing voices" and Back Stage raved "Lauren Kennedy soars, Anneliese van der Pol is deeply moving and Sarah Stiles is a riot".

Founded 10 years ago by Kurt Deutsch and Sherie Rene Scott, Sh-K-Boom and its imprint Ghostlight Records has become the leading independent force in musical theatre recording -shining a light towards its future while continuing to honor its past. The label is renowned for its efforts to encourage and support the music of the most innovative new voices on Broadway, to help bridge the gap between pop/rock and musicals, and to preserve the scores of important works. Ghostlight
Records received a 2009 Grammy Award for their double-CD release of In the Heights (already a TonyTM Award Winner for Best Musical and Best Score) and was also just Grammy-nominated for the new cast recording of Broadway's Hair, which debuted at #1 on the Broadway Billboard Chart.

In addition to In the Heights and Hair, Ghostlight's recent releases of the OCRs for Tony winners Next to Normal, Passing Strange, and the single release featuring the winner of MTV's Legally Blonde The Musical competition, have brought the label acclaim for their innovative marketing techniques and their efforts to reach the next generation of Broadway music fans via iTunes, music videos and more. Coverage has ranged from Rolling Stone to USA TODAY to The New York
Times, from Blender Magazine to Playbill to Billboard, from AP Radio to NY-1 TV, and much more.

Also featured amongst the label's over 75 titles are the popular cast albums of Legally Blonde, The Last Five Years, Hair, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, [title of show] and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and solo albums from major Broadway artists like Patti LuPone, Sutton Foster, Kelli O'Hara, Christine Ebersole, Alice Ripley and Adam Pascal.
