The University of Cape Town Drama Department is staging their Autumn Season at the Rosebank Theatre. Three productions, all directed by the prolific Christopher Weare, will be performed between 30 April and 17 May 2014.

First up is a double bill of Anton Chekhov's DIE BUFFEL and Dario Fo's THE OPEN COUPLE, featuring graduating students from the department. The pair of plays

Chekhov is is regarded as a master in detailing the domestic and human lives of his time through a curious comic lens allowing the themes to resonate with our contemporary lives. His DIE BUFFEL is a funny and heart-warming comedy, with some hints of sarcasm about human nature. David Viviers (MEPHISTO, A LIE OF THE MIND) and Maggie Gericke (CURL UP AND DYE) bring this iconic dramatist's work to life.

Fo, the famed Italian satirist, playwright, theatre director, actor, and composer, received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1997. In THE OPEN COUPLE, he explores sexual politics in marriage through an extended argument between a man who enjoys a choice of partners and a woman who wants him to be hers alone. The cast of THE OPEN COUPLE features Nathan Lynne (MEPHISTO, A LIE OF THE MIND) and Larica Schnell (MEPHISTO).

LION ON THE PATH is a collection of African fables from Zimbabwe. These stories are a must for those who enjoy humour and provide popular entertainment for all ages.

Tickets for the UCT Drama Department Autumn Season are available through Webtickets (www.webtickets.co.za). DIE BUFFEL and THE OPEN COUPLE run from 30 April - 10 May and LION ON THE PATH runs from 12 - 17 May.
