UCSD to Stage STREAMERS by David Rabe

The University of California San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance presents Streamers, a play by Tony Award winner David Rabe, with direction by UC San Diego faculty member Kim Rubenstein. The play focuses on the interactions and conflicts among a group of soldiers preparing to fight in Vietnam.

Addressing themes of race, class, sexual identity and ideology, the production previews Feb. 21 and 23, 7 p.m; with regularly scheduled shows running Feb. 24 and 25, Mar. 2 through 4, 7:30 p.m., with a matinee Feb. 25, 2 p.m.

Performances are at the Mandell Weiss Forum in the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Theatre District on UC San Diego's campus: 2910 La Jolla Village Drive, La Jolla, CA. For information about parking, see the website.

The production staff includes Kim Rubinstein (Director), Charlie Jicha (Scenic Designer), Junior Bergman (Costume Designer), Alex Miller-Long (Lighting Designer), Jim Short (Dramaturg), Kamra A. Jacobs (Production Stage Manager), Bryan Runion (Assistant Stage Manager), Charlie Oates (Fight Choreographer), Caleb Kneip (Assistant Director), Eva Barnes (Vocal Coach), Justin Livengood (Assistant to the Director), Mary Catherine Lopez (Assistant to the Director).

David Rabe is an American playwright and screenwriter. He won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1972 for Sticks and Bones, and also received Tony award nominations for Best Play in 1974 for In the Boom Boom Room, 1977 for Streamers, and 1985 for Hurlyburly.

Director Kim Rubinstein was most recently Long Wharf Theatre's Associate Artistic Director where she directed Guys and Dolls, Midsummer Night's Dream, Private Lives, Santaland Diaries, and The Cocktail Hour. This past summer she directed Much Ado About Nothing for Shakespeare Santa Cruz. She was Associate Director with Michael Mayer and National Tour Director of the Angels In America. Her teaching credits include ten years on the acting/directing faculty at Northwestern University, University of Chicago, Brown/Trinity Consortium, Wesleyan University, NTI at The O'Neill Center and a ongoing teaching gig with the School at Steppenwolf. Kim has been very active in the development of new plays and has directed many readings and workshops at places like New Dramatists and Long Wharf. Ms. Rubinstein is a recipient of the TCG/NEA directing fellowship and was nominated for the Alan Schneider Directing Award, among other awards for her directing and teaching.
