In My Life star David Turner will replace Christopher Fitzgerald in the Off-Broadway production of Gutenberg! The Musical!.

Fitzgerald is departing for pilot season in L.A.  After a US premiere at the New York Musical Theatre Festival, the show transferred to 59E59 Theaters and is now playing the Actors' Playhouse.  Turner will start in the show on February 13th as Bud Davenport; he will join Jeremy Shamos as Doug Simon.

Gutenberg! The Musical! is by Anthony King and Scott Brown (winners of the 2006 NYMF Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre Writing – Book) and is directed by Alex Timbers.

In the two-man musical spoof, a pair of aspiring playwrights, Bud Davenport and Doug Simon, perform a backers' audition for their new project - a great big musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. They hope that one of the producers in the audience will give them a Broadway contract - fulfilling their ill-advised dreams.  With an unending supply of charm, enthusiasm and idiocy, and accompanied by Larry, their pianist, Bud and Doug sing all the songs and play all the parts in their crass historical epic, using only baseball caps to differentiate between the show's 30 characters," as press notes describe the show.

Turner has just returned from playing Sir Robin in the national tour of Monty Python's Spamalot. He has appeared on Broadway in Tom Stoppard's The Invention of Love, and as Winston in In My Life.  His Off-Broadway credits include The Butter and Egg Man, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), and The Last Sunday in June.  At Williamstown, he's appeared in Where's Charley?, Camino Real, As You Like It, The Skin of Our Teeth, and the title role in The Servant of Two Masters. At the Pittsburgh Public Theatre, he's been seen in The Bird Sanctuary, an American premiere by Frank McGuinness. . Turner is a composer/lyricist member of the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop, where he received the Jerry Harrington Award. He is also the writer/director of a short film called The Debut.

Gutenberg! The Musical! is presented Off-Broadway by Trevor Brown, Ron Kastner, Terry Allen Kramer and Joseph Smith in association with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.
