Trey McIntyre's Troup to Perform at Eccles Center, 3/29

"Adventurous and unpredictable" (Chicago Tribune) choreographer Trey McIntyre's stunning troupe dances into The Eccles Center spotlight on March 29. The Boise, Idaho-based, ballet-rooted, "versatile, invigorating company" (Dance magazine) brings two contemporary pieces to Park City. Performance begins at 7:30 p.m.

Founded in 2005 and settled in Boise since 2008, Trey McIntyre Project, is a contemporary ballet company rooted in Mr. McIntyre's innovative, artistic and athletic vision. Using dance and a variety of mediums to explore what it means to be human, McIntyre believes that the process of creating art-from the studio to the stage-is a metaphor for the journey of self-dis­covery. That exploration and discovery has inspired more than 90 works and significant acclaim.

The company's Park City performance includes "The Vinegar Works: Four Dances of Moral Instruction" with music by Dmitri Shostakovich and "Mercury Half-Life" set to rock band Queen.

In Boise, where the troupe was named cultural ambassador in 2010, the 10 dancers have reached something of a rock star status. McIntyre, a sought-after choreographer whose work has been commissioned by companies ranging from New York City Ballet to Ballet de Santiago (Chile), has been received numerous honors (such as the Gold Medal of Lifetime Achievement from the National Society of Arts and Letters and two choreo­graphic fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts). McIntyre has also led the company into partnerships with such groups as the Society for Wilderness Stewardship (think photographs of leaping dancers in gorgeous outdoor locales).

McIntyre recently announced plans to transition this summer from full-time dance company to a multimedia entity in order to pursue projects in film, photography and writing.
