THE AVENGERS and THOR star as well as frequent thespian Tom Hiddleston will be making his return to the West End stage in William Shakespeare's CORIOLANUS this December according to a new announcement of the upcoming Donmar Warehouse 2013-2014 season. Subsequently, the production will also be filmed and broadcast worldwide.

Hiddleston will take on the title role in the war-themed tragedy, running December 6 through February 8.

The production will be directed by Josie Rourke. Tickets go on sale June 25.

Hiddleston commented on CORIOLANUS and how it applies to the modern age recently, stating, "The fate of Coriolanus dramatizes the conflict in the heart of every public figure: the war between integrity and popularity. It's a play about soldiers, politicians and the people. It's a play for our time; for any time."

The official synopsis of CORIOLANUS as per the Donmar Warehouse is as follows: "When an old adversary threatens Rome, the city calls once more on her hero and defender: Coriolanus. But he has enemies at home too. Famine threatens the city, the citizens' hunger swells to an appetite for change, and on returning from the field Coriolanus must confront the march of realpolitik and the voice of an angry people."

Additionally, CORIOLANUS will be filmed and broadcast as part of National Theatre Live on January 30, 2014.

Hiddleston previously starred in Shakespeare's OTHELLO and CYMBELINE onstage, as well as in BBC's THE HOLLOW CROWN film series last year, portraying Prince Hal in HENRY IV Parts 1 and 2 as well as HENRY V.
