Adelaide Mestre's solo musical autobiography, presented by Three Halves Productions, Top Drawer, opens at the Triad Theater on March 4 (Sundays @ 6pm, 3/4-4/15, 158 West 72nd Street  New York, NY 10023 http://triadnyc.com/ Tickets: $15 & two drink minimum http://www.brownpapertickets.com/)

Through song and dialogue, in English and a touch of Spanish, Adelaide transports us from NYC to Cuba and back in this darkly comic show based on Adelaide’s unusual life in an eccentric family on Park Avenue. Her handsome father was an accomplished classical pianist in Havana before he fled Cuba.  He never found the acclaim he dreamed of achieving in America. Adelaide’s mother was a beautiful opera singer from an upper class WASP family, for whom appearances meant everything.  Together they were a dynamic, but ultimately tragic couple. Adelaide's lush prose, command of accents, and beautiful voice bring her family’s story alive. We travel with her across time, through the good and the bad, to her journey of self-discovery. The family had their share of demons: homosexuality at a time when it was not acceptable, depression, financial problems, unfulfilled dreams, and sadly a suicide.

Top Drawer is a musical experience that will leave audiences feeling uplifted and inspired. The musical director (and pianist) Doug Oberhamer has been involved in musical theatre for over 25 years, with credits ranging from Broadway and Off Broadway to national and international tours. Adelaide Mestre has performed in theatrical productions, musicals, cabarets and films including Woody Allen’s “Husbands and Wives.” She has written and performed solo shows "Dead Mosquito" at Emerging Artists Theatre's One Woman Standing Festival and "Out of Step" at Where Eagles Dare Theatre. Her ten minute play, “It’s My Amygdala” was produced at the Estrogenius Festival and the SoHo Playhouse. The show is directed by Coco Cohn, who has returned to NYC after spending a decade in LA directing and developing musicals for the critically acclaimed theatre company, Neurotic Young Urbanites.
