The Duplex Cabaret Theatre's celebrated series, Broadway Downtown, will continue throughout 2006.

The goal of the series is to bring Broadway performers downtown for special, one-night-only concerts. Past participants have included Judy Blazer, Darius DeHaas, Barrett Foa, Karen Mason, Sally Mayes, Christiane Noll, Kate Shindle, Barbara Walsh and many others.

This February, the Duplex will welcome Wicked's Marty Thomas (February 13), and Phantom of the Opera's Anne Runolfsson (February 27) to its stage. Thomas's performance will begin at 7pm, and Runolfsson's at 6pm.

Thomas is a Grammy-nominated recording artist as well as theatre performer. He performed as Colin in Broadway's The Secret Garden, and while still performing in Garden, he was named the 1992 Junior Vocalist champion on Ed McMahon's "Star Search," beating out a then unknown Britney Spears. He has also performed at Therapy's Wednesday Nights in Midtown, hosting their Cattle Call show for a year. His recent, self titled, solo CD release can be seen and heard atwww.cdbaby.com/martythomas, and more information can be obtained at his website: www.martythomas.com.

The show Marty will debut at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre is titled Songs I'm Not Supposed to Sing, and "is a collection of music by artists and from shows that typically would not be expected to be heard from an artist like Marty. It's a show about breaking stereotypes, testing barriers and challenging living freely. Marty will cover everything from Dreamgirls to Aretha," according to press notes.

Runolfsson has built a career the theater as well as in recording studios, intimate cabaret spaces and concert halls throughout the world. Currently on Broadway, she plays Carlotta Giudacelli in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, which recently became the longest running show in Broadway history. Prior to that, she made a splash in Victor/Victoria as standby to Julie Andrews and Liza Minnelli. She performed the title role over 120 times and went on to recreate the role in the National Tour.
