As one of Albuquerque's last remaining local, independent bookstores, we are dedicated to supporting our community and connecting books and readers. We hold more than 300 adults, Y/A, and children's events per year, showcasing the work of nationally-touring and best-selling authors and locally-published authors alike. We partner with New Mexico community groups and organizations to produce high-quality lectures, talks, and signings both at our store and at off-site venues.

Before indie was cool or hip, we were indie. Bookworks has been a literary meeting place in Albuquerque since 1984, first from its university area location and now from its home in Albuquerque's Rio Grande Valley. As a locally-owned small business, we pay taxes that support our community, pay wages and provide benefits to dozens of employees, donate money and books to local nonprofits, support local libraries, and give back to our community however we can, whenever we can.

Bookworks prides itself in friendly, accommodative customer service. We have limited space for stocking books, but we can fill a special order for books, audio books, and CDs usually in 2-3 business days--a turn-around time competitive with national online retailers. And like the online giants, we also offer e-books through our new partnership with Kobo, so whether you still read in print or on a screen, you can shop locally for all your book buying needs.

Shop online or live. Bookworks is located at 4022 Rio Grande Blvd NW, in the Flying Star Plaza, just north of Griegos. From I-40 west, take the Rio Grande exit, and turn right (north) on Rio Grande. Proceed through several lights, pass the North Valley La Montanita Co-Op, and travel just north of Griegos to the Flying Star Plaza. View a map.
