TheatreWorks Stage Two Program for teens will present the Broadway musical HAIR, The American Tribal Love - Rock Musical with a book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot tonight, August 9 and Saturday August 10 at 7:00pm. Tickets are just $20 each.

Hair tells the story of the "tribe," a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War. Claude, his good friend Berger, their roommate Sheila and their friends struggle to balance their young lives, loves and the sexual revolution with their rebellion against the war and their conservative parent and society. Ultimately, Claude must decide whether to resist the draft as his friends have done, or to succumb to the pressures of his parents (and conservative America) to serve in Vietnam, compromising his pacifistic principles and risking his life.

The cast, led by Jim Hagen as Claude, includes Briyya Caceres, Jordan Fox, Chris Johnson, Corinne Jones, Andrew McGuire, Sam Nast, Nadia Ostreicher, Erin Shaughnessy, Annie Smith, Morgan L. Tracy, AnDrew Taylor, Michelle Bohin, Maya Daley, Emily Chauvin, Jackie Carey

This original, high-powered version of HAIR, modified for teenagers, was created and directed by professional director and choreographer Robert Bianca, with the help of musical director, local vocal professional Zoe Vandermeer. The period costumes were designed by Lori Larson.

TheatreWorks Stage Two programs are designed to give teens a chance experience the thrill and excitement of being on stage. Throughout the process of mounting a production, students learn acting and vocal skills, along with original and unique choreography. This program inspires creativity, confidence and a sense of community through the exploration and practice of theatre skills. The TW Kids programs have helped bring the joy of theatre to many children and given each and every one of them a chance to learn and grow.

Director Bobby Bianca says "It's such thrill to be directing a show for TheatreWorks. It is exhilarating to work with this fresh young cast, many who have never been in a musical. Their explosive energy is perfect for the legendary show Hair, and all the passion, and raw emotion that it requires."

Performances will be held tonight and tomorrow, August 9th and August 10th at 7pm. Tickets are $20.00 and can be purchased here: http://theatreworks.us/index.php.
