Theatre In The Park opens the 2015 Season with Black Pearl Sings!, a gem of a play that reminds everyone that within all of our differences comes a stroke of similarity.

Black Pearl Sings! follows two dramatically diverse women on their quests to obtain their portion of one of life's Happy Endings. Susannah is white, researching and preserving folk songs for the Library of Congress in order to secure herself an Ivy League position. Pearl is an African-American woman who trades fragments of her musical heritage in exchange for help in finding her missing daughter.

Throughout this two-woman production, we're hit with seasons of emotions that subdue and subject us through a whirlwind of changes. Through the use of music, we're able to travel through time and explore the dynamics of two women trapped inside the world of fallen notes, unspoken rhythms, and celebrated hymns. Black Pearl Sings! chronicles the story about being a woman in a man's world, being black in a white world, and fighting for one's soul in a world where anyone can be a commodity.

Reviving their roles from the acclaimed 2014 production at Temple Theatre, Lynda Clark and Rozlyn Sorrell portray Susannah and Pearl respectively. "I'm thrilled to revisit this piece," says Lynda Clark. "I find it fascinating to watch these two women negotiate their hopes and dreams through music. And anytime I get to hear Rozlyn sing is a treat."

Rozlyn Sorrell states, "For me, the connection Lynda and I have is magical. We completely trust each other and I could not be any happier than to be here with her." This isn't the first time the duo has appeared on stage together at Theatre In The Park. Audiences may remember Lynda as Maria Callas in the 2009 production of Master Class. Rozlyn appeared as Sharon, a soprano opera student.

With the powerful story of the dance between these two strong willed women, beautiful soul stirring music, and the notion of saving the past to enrich the future, one can easily see why Black Pearl Sings! is one of the country's most frequently performed new plays. With Black Pearl Sings! you will learn a colorful message: in order to attain that Pot of Gold, you have to be willing to consume all that comes with exploring the rainbow.

Black Pearl Sings! opens February 6. Theatregoers are urged to make reservations well in advance of its opening night.

Black Pearl Sings! will be performed February 6-7; 12-14; 19-21 at 7:30pm and February 8; 15; 22 at 3:00pm. Tickets are $28 -- Adult; $22 -- Seniors 60+/Students and are available now through Theatre In The Park's box office 919-831-6058 or online at theatreinthepark.com.
