The Color Purple shattered the Broadway Theatre's house record, grossing $1,102,943.00 for the week ending June 18, 2006, besting La Boheme's previous record of $1,013,328.00. It then went on to break its own house record for the following two consecutive weeks grossing $1,123,021.00 for the week ending June 25 and $1,134,729.00 for the week ending July 2.
The musical has been one of the Top 5 grossing shows on Broadway since its opening. Since its first performance on November 1, 2005, The Color Purple has the highest cumulative gross and attendance figures of any new Broadway show of the 2005-2006 season.
The Color Purple, which celebrated its 250th Performance on Saturday evening, July 8, began previews on November 1, 2005 and opened on December 1, 2005, has grossed, to date, a total of over $37 million in ticket sales.
The Color Purple has announced its first North American Tour, which will kick off in Chicago on April 17, 2007 at The Cadillac Palace Theatre.
Directed by Gary Griffin and starring Tony Award-winner LaChanze, The Color Purple features a libretto by Pulitzer Prize-winner Marsha Norman, music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning composers/lyricists Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray.

'Color Purple' Tour Begins in Pittsburgh Oprah Winfrey, Scott Sanders and the producing team of the Broadway smash hit The Color Purple are proud to announce that tickets for the first North American Touring production of The Color Purple in Pittsburgh will go on sale Monday, April 7, 2008 at 9 a.m. The Color Purple will run for two-weeks as part of the Pittsburgh CLO's 2008 Summer Season June 3 - June 15, 2008 at the Benedum Center.
