The Weird Sisters Theatre Project continue their 2014 summer season with Late: A Cowboy Song by Sarah Ruhl at Actor's Express theatre, July 21-August 5. The play is an early work of the award-winning playwright about perpetually late Mary, a woman who is desperately searching to find herself. Marrying her childhood sweetheart, Crick, has come with a sense of security yet tons of baggage. They seem to be happy. Enough. Until Mary reunites with her old friend Red, the alluring and magnetic cowboy who just happens to be a woman. Mary is caught in a struggle between societal expectations and experiencing true freedom. Music, poetry, and the mysteries of love collide in a way only Ruhl can achieve. This play is for all the lady cowboys of heart and mind who ride outside the city limits of convention. The marvelous cast of Late: A Cowboy Song features Weird Sisters Founding Member, Kelly Criss (Ophelia, Hamlet: Shakespeare Tavern) as Mary, Christen Orr (Martha, Spring Awakening: Actor's Express) as Red, and Jacob York (Bennett Riggs, Angry Fags: 7 Stages) as Crick. With Founding Member Jaclyn Hofmann directing, original music by Daniel Hilton and puppetry by Beau Brown (Center for Puppetry Arts), this production is sure to be a feast for the senses. The play will run in repertory with the Actor's Express production of The Rocky Horror Show.

"Here as ever, Ruhl has a finger to her chin in poetic meditation, with the added attraction of a youthful yodel in her heart." - Washington Post

Producer Quotes
"For our 4th summer of production, we wanted to share some special stories about unlikely friendships. Criminal Hearts between an agoraphobic and her would-be burglar and Late: A Cowboy Song between a new mother and a mysterious cowboy (who also just happens to be woman). These stories challenge our traditional ideas of what female friendships can be - and how sometimes the more complicated a relationship becomes, the more value and worth it can hold for us. With strong female directors at the helm of both shows (Nichole Palmietto and Jaclyn Hofmann) we're very excited to share these fantastic, quirky, and lovable women's journeys." -Kelly Criss

"All of us 'Weird Sisters' were absolutely ecstatic when Freddie Ashley agreed to host Late: A Cowboy Song to run in rep with The Rocky Horror Show! I have had the distinct pleasure of working at Actor's Express in the past and all the Founders have a profound appreciation for the outstanding caliber of art they achieve production after production. We have been so lucky to have the opportunity to produce at amazing theatres (The Shakespeare Tavern and Aurora Theatre) and we are thrilled to branch out into a new venue and start building our relationship with Actor's Express. This venue is perfect for this production and their core audience will LOVE this show." -Veronika Duerr
