After a successful nine and a half month run, The Toxic Avenger, the critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway musical, will end its New York run, having played over 300 performances at New World Stages on Sunday, January 3rd, 2010, to prepare for its national tour. The Toxic Avenger had its world premiere at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey where it broke box office records before transferring Off-Broadway, beginning previews on March 18, 2009 and officially opening on April 6, 2009.
The Toxic Avenger has been enthusiastically embraced by over 80,000 theatre fans, nominated for several awards - winning the 2009 Best Off Broadway Musical Award by the Outer Critics Circle, and even rang the Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Indeed, it's been a TOX-A-RI-FIC time!Producers Jean Cheever and Tom Polum are thrilled with the success of the show. "We've been blessed with a talented creative team, phenomenal cast, highly skilled crew, smokin' hot band, dedicated behind-the-scenes support group and loyal theatre audiences. When we announced the tour last month, we were overwhelmed by the response to "Want Toxie to come to Your Town?" on our website. Theatre fans from Los Angeles, Cleveland, Austin, Chicago, and other cities across the U.S. and other parts of the world want the same "Toxic" experience enjoyed in New York City and most recently in Toronto, where a production opened on Halloween. It's a wonderful escape from the stress of everyday life and a chance to just have some fun" says Cheever.Videos
