Government officials and religious leaders of Pietrelcina, Italy, appeared in a press conference in Pietrelcina with the CEO of the New York-based Saint Pio Foundation. The parties announced the signing of an exclusive joint agreement, which designates the Saint Pio Foundation as the representative of the City of Pietrelcina and the Friars Minor Capuchin of Pietrelcina within the United States. The purpose of this union is to promote the life and work of one of the world's most beloved saints, Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, in America. The City of Pietrelcina was selected for the signing of this agreement since it is the birthplace of Saint Pio.

The press conference was conducted by the Deputy Mayor and Councilor of Culture of the City of Pietrelcina, Mr. Salvatore Mazzone. Speakers included Hon. Domenico Masone, Mayor of the City of Pietrelcina; Father Marciano Guarino, Guardian of the Convent of the Friars Minor Capuchin of Pietrelcina; and Maestro Luciano Lamonarca, President and CEO of the Saint Pio Foundation. The participants also announced a 2017 commemorative tour of important official relics and artifacts of Saint Pio in the United States that will mark the 130th anniversary of Padre Pio's birth. "I am very grateful to the Mayor of the City of Pietrelcina, Hon. Domenico Masone, and to Father Marciano Guarino, Guardian of the Friars Minor Capuchin of Pietrelcina, for their endorsement and spiritual support, and for agreeing to offer their prayers for the American faithful who will make their requests through the Saint Pio Foundation. We are proud to partner with them, and to work together in bringing Padre Pio to the hundreds of thousands of devotees in U.S. in 2017, on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the birth of Padre Pio. More information about this important project will be available soon on the Saint Pio Foundation's website," said Maestro Luciano Lamonarca, Founder, President, and CEO of the Saint Pio Foundation.
