Carnegie Hall Presents it's calendar of events for December of 2013, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and The New York Pops.

THE PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRA
Tonight, December 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin and The Philadelphia Orchestra perform Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique, Op. 14, and Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 83, featuringHélène Grimaud.

BOMBINO
Friday, December 6 at 10:00 p.m.

Born into an era of armed struggle along the Niger and Mali border, guitarist and singer-songwriter Bombino is on a mission to bring peace and international brotherhood to the world through song. His electrifying jams capture the spirit of rebellion, while echoing with Jimi Hendrix-like riffs reminiscent of fellow Africans Tinariwen and Ali Farka Touré.

MIGUEL ZENÓN

ARTIST ADDITION:
Note the following musicians added to the performance by the groundbreaking Puerto Rican-born saxophonist Miguel Zenón(pictured at right): pianist Luis Perdomo; bassist Hans Glawischnig; drummer Henry Cole; saxophonists Will Vinson, Michael Thomas,John Ellis, Samir Zarif, and Chris Cheek; trumpeters Mat Jodrell,JoNathan Powell, Michael Rodriguez, and Alexander Norris; and trombonists Tim Albright, Alan Ferber, and Ryan Keberle. Zenón's unique multimedia tribute to his spirited homeland (with videography byDavid Dempewolfe) is entitled Identities are Changeable: Tales from the Diaspora, which blends Latin American folkloric music and jazz to create an entirely new musical language.

DISCOVERY DAY: Benjamin Britten

Continuing Carnegie Hall's season-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Benjamin Britten (pictured at right): a Discovery Day of talks and performance devoted to the composer features a keynote address from Paul Kildea, author of Benjamin Britten: A Life in the Twentieth Century, and a talk from John Bridcut, author of Britten's Children. Pianist Malcolm Martineau has also organized a song recital for the event, featuring Britten works performed by sopranos Joélle Harvey and Emalie Savoy, tenor Paul Appleby, and baritone John Brancy.

ENSEMBLE ACJW
Saturday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Ensemble ACJW is led by guest conductor David Robertson in a concert featuring Luciano Berio's Folk Songs with soprano Dawn Upshaw. Steve Reich's City Life and Bartók's Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta complete the program.

ANNE-SOPHIE MUTTER / LAMBERT ORKIS

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of their artistic partnership and Carnegie Hall recital debut, the esteemed violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter collaborates with pianist Lambert Orkis in a recital featuring the world premieres of new works by Krzysztof Penderecki and André Previn, plus Lutoslawski's Partita, Schubert's Fantasy in C Major, D. 934, and Saint-Saëns's Violin Sonata No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 75.

THE NEW YORK POPS

The New York Pops and Music Director Steven Reineke perform two holiday concerts joined by Ashley Brown (pictured at right), star of the original Broadway production of Mary Poppins, and Essential Voices USA for a program entitled Under the Mistletoe with Ashley Brown, which will include traditional and new holidays hits.

Carnegie Hall FAMILY HOLIDAY CONCERT: THE NEW YORK POPS

ARTIST ADDITION:
Broadway veteran John Tartaglia has been added as narrator for the Carnegie Hall Family Concert performance of the iconic holiday television special, A Charlie Brown Christmas, created by Charles M. Schulz. The concert will feature Steven Reineke (pictured at right) leading The New York Pops, with the New York Theatre Ballet,Essential Voices USA, and members of TADA! Youth Theatre.

THE MET ORCHESTRA
Sunday, December 22 at 3:00 p.m.

Music Director James Levine (pictured at right) leads The MET Orchestra in an all-Mahler program, featuring Symphony No. 7 in E Minor, plus Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with baritone Peter Mattei.

NEW YORK STRING ORCHESTRA

Conductor Jaime Laredo (pictured at right) celebrates 20 years as artistic director and conductor of the New York String Orchestra in its two annual Carnegie Hall concerts. The orchestra is composed of young musicians, ages 15 to 22, participating in the annual New York String Orchestra seminar, now in its 45th year. On Tuesday, December 24 at 7:00 p.m., they are joined by guest violinist Bella Hristova for Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64, on a program that also features Mozart's Overture to The Marriage of Figaroand Symphony No. 31 in D Major, K. 297, "Paris." On Saturday, December 28 at 8:00 p.m., the orchestra is joined by pianist Leon Fleisher for Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 4 in B-flat Major, Op. 53, and the Johannes String Quartet for Elgar's Introduction and Allegro, Op. 47. Also on the program is Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, Op. 74, "Pathétique."
