About the Minnesota Opera

In 1963, the commission of Minnesota composer Dominick Argento's The Masque of Angels (pictured above) sparked the creation of a small Twin Cities opera company spotlighting the rare and avant-garde. Fifty years later, Minnesota Opera is a leading American company, admired as an innovative creator of compelling opera productions, programs and new works.

As it begins its second half-century, Minnesota Opera honors its visionary roots with the premiere of Argento's newly revised opera, The Dream of Valentino, at the center of a season featuring opera's most iconic composers - Mozart, Verdi, Puccini and Strauss.

Minnesota Opera, led by President and General Director Kevin Ramach, Artistic Director Dale Johnsonand Music Director Michael Christie, combines a culture of creativity and fiscal responsibility to produce opera and opera education programs that expand the art form, nurture artists, enrich audiences and contribute to the vitality of the community.
