The McKittrick Hotel's recently announced The Wizard of Oz-themed Supercinema-which is set to take place during NYC Pride Weekend-will benefit Equality Florida Pulse Victims Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety to stand in solidarity with the LGBT community and its allies in response to the national tragedy that occurred in Orlando, Florida this week. This Supercinema, called The Emerald City Ball, will be held as previously announced on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at The McKittrick Hotel (530 W 27th Street, New York, NY), home of Sleep No More. For more information, visit www.supercinemanyc.com.

In a statement, representatives for The McKittrick Hotel said, "This month's Supercinema was conceived and scheduled with NYC Pride Weekend in mind, in celebration of our LGBT friends and allies. The recent events in Orlando make it essential that we not only celebrate the LGBT community but also raise awareness for the struggles the community still faces against violent, hate-filled members of society, many of whom have easy access to assault weapons. We are honored to be able to benefit Equality Florida and Everytown for Gun Safety, two organizations that work tirelessly to shine a light on the challenges still facing not only the LGBT community but all Americans impacted by hate crimes and gun violence."

The McKittrick Hotel is also proud to announce that in a show of hometown support, Detox, an Orlando native and contestant on Season Five of "RuPaul's Drag Race," will be performing as part of Supercinema's Pride Celebration.

In a statement, Detox said, "There are few words left to describe how I feel about what has happened in Orlando, but of all of the countless emotions we've all gone through during this ordeal, the one that keeps resonating to me is love. Love for those affected by the events at Pulse. Love for all of our LGBTQ sisters and brothers and everything in between, not just nationally, but globally. Love for ourselves, as this has been yet another reminder to live each day to its fullest. Love for the love that has been shown to us by our allies, community, and sympathetic strangers from Pole to Pole. This is the kind of sense of community that, unfortunately, has been missing for some time. Let this be a reminder that, in order to make change, we must show solidarity at all times. No more separation, and bigotry, and elitist attitudes towards the members of our own community. For when they see a crack in our foundation, they see an excuse to knock us to the ground. We must not let those cracks be shown any longer. Never in my life have I been more proud to be a fluttering, eyebrow-less, freak of nature. Never! Orlando made me into what I am today. Pulse gave me that first initial springboard to say "You can do this!" and I will continue to do this. Forever proud of my beginnings and appreciative of everything and everyone who helped shape me into this bag of silicone- so that I too may be that support to someone. #OrlandoStrong #OneLoveOnePulse "

Supercinema, a one-of-a-kind nightlife experience told through a cinematic lens, invites guests to a music-and-live-performance-filled dance party inspired by the world of that month's film or film series, as with recent installments that immersed partygoers in worlds of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet in February, James Bond 007 in March, Alice in Wonderland in April, and most recently The Great Gatsby in May.

Each Supercinema party requires guests arrive in costumes inspired by the film, which for The Wizard of Oz means dressing as Dorothy Gale, Tin Woodman, Scarecrow, Wicked Witch of the West, Cowardly Lion, Glinda (Good Witch), Flying Monkey, Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, The Wizard, Emerald City Citizen (All Green), Rainbow Attire, Lollipop Guild, or Lullaby League. The evening features scenic installations, pop-up theatrical performances, costumes galore and an all-night open bar with your ticket. Ticket packages are on-sale now.
