Synth Nights, The Kitchen's series devoted to the live performance of electronic music, continues tonight, December 3 with a performance by Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artists James Hoff and C. Spencer Yeh. The evening will feature Hoff presenting his BLASTER project -- 808 electro-inspired electronic music created by infecting drum machine samples with computer viruses. Yeh will perform improvisations on violin, voice, and electronics, presenting his most recent electro-acoustic strategies while revisiting older autodidactic performance gestures.

The concert will begin at 8pm. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at www.thekitchen.org; by phone at 212.255.5793 x11; or in person at The Kitchen (512 West 19th Street), Tuesdays - Saturdays, 2:00 - 6:00 P.M.

An exhibition of Hoff's computer virus paintings is currently on view at Callicoon Fine Arts and the Berlin-based label PAN has recently released a record of his BLASTER work. Tiny Mix Tapes writes, "While the album still thrives on the voyeuristic appeal of irreversible destruction, it eschews the bombast and easy press of 'riot noise' for a different kind of physicality." Hoff has maintained a strong focus on distributed forms and experiments with language, including cross-disciplinary investigations that address orally-transmitted syndromes, computer viruses, and ear worms. He has performed and exhibited internationally at venues such at the Centre Georges Pompidou, Artists Space, Or Gallery (Vancouver), Kunsthall Oslo, the MCA Denver, The Eli & Edythe Broad Art Museum, The Power Plant, Le Monnaie / De Munt (Brussels), Issue Project Room and Air De Paris, among others.

Yeh will be a 2015 Artist-in-Residence at ISSUE Project Room. His video works will enter distribution by Electronic Arts Intermix in 2015. Recent presentations of Yeh's work include The Companion at the Liverpool Biennial, Modern Mondays at MoMA, In Tones From Light to Dark at Performa 13, Excursus IV at the ICA Philadelphia and Kinomuzeum at Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Yeh also collaborated with Triple Canopy for their contribution to the Whitney Biennial in 2014. Recent recorded works include Ambient (with Robert Piotrowicz), 1975 (as C. Spencer Yeh), Transitions (as CS Yeh), and Wake Up Awesome, a collaboration with Okkyung Lee and Lasse Marhaug on the Software label. Primary Information will publish a collection of voice-based works, Solo Voice I - X in 2015.
