On Saturday, May 7, 2011, the Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County will host a Gala Fundraiser, to kick off the premiere exhibit, Marilyn Michaels - paintings & memories - A Multimedia Exhibit, featuring the art & memorabilia of singer/actress/comedienne, Marilyn Michaels. The exhibit, which opens to the public on May 10 & runs through July 30, includes portraits of celebrities, still-life, landscapes & abstracts. Also on display will be memorabilia from her prestigious musical family heritage (renowned cantor, Moishe Oysher was her uncle, pioneering Cantor Fraydele Oysher was her mother & Metropolitan Opera basso, Harold Sternberg, was her father). Marilyn was recently the subject of the New York Times "Vows" column, when she married New Jersey attorney/judge, Steven Portnoff.

Marilyn Michaels - paintings & memories, will feature a vast array of celebrity paintings, including such icons as Marilyn Monroe, Barbra Streisand, Woody Allen & Elizabeth Taylor, as well as landscapes, costumes & personal letters. Well-known for her stage, TV & recording work, Ms Michaels is largely self-taught as an artist, although she majored in art at the prestigious High School of Music & Art in New York City. She is an accomplished painter who has shown in New York & Palm Beach's finest galleries, with her work in the collections of several corporations & featured on such shows as "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous," "The Tonight Show," "Fox News" & "Live, with Regis & Kelly."

As an actress, Ms Michaels is known to audiences globally, through her countless TV & personal appearances. She starred in the National Company of Funny Girl (taking the Barbra Streisand role), on Broadway in Catskills on Broadway, in the Emmy Award-winning series, "The Kopykats" & has headlined in Atlantic City & Las Vegas. Her experiences working with Woody Allen, Burt Reynolds, George Steinbrenner, legendary producer Jerry Weintraub, David Frost & Michael Jackson, make for fun & informative anecdotes, as well as brilliant artwork.

Located in an historic 19th century landmark building (the Levi Solomon Barn in Freehold, New Jersey), The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County is dedicated to celebrating, preserving, exploring & illustrating the rich & unique history of the Jewish residents of Monmouth County, through the promotion of public awareness of the County's Jewish heritage for the education & enjoyment of both children & adults.
