Adults, this one isn't for you. The Canton Symphony Orchestra (CSO) kindly asks you to let the kids enjoy this one. A concert, that is.

The CSO will perform a kid-centric Kinder Concert on April 9 at 9:30am and 10:30am. This performance includes all of the instrument families and all "kidding" aside, invites children of all ages to the program. It will be held in the Great Court at the Cultural Center for the Arts.

The Kinder Concert provides young students the opportunity to attend a full orchestra performance created just for them! Excerpts from classical pieces provide an engaging backdrop to academic content woven throughout the 40-minute program. Musicians also demonstrate their individual instruments so the children can see and hear each component of the orchestra separately.

Like the SymphonyLand performances, this concert also uses a book - Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman - to combine educational and musical principles. The educational concepts developed address Ohio New Learning Standards in Music, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science.

"This is always one of our most popular concerts," commented Lisa Boyer, Director of Education and Community Engagement for the CSO. "The children always love the music as a backdrop to the story. It's like TV, but in real life. You get the same drama, the same action, but it's live and in person. You can see their excitement during the concert. Afterward, many of them go up to the musicians to see the instruments up close."

The Kinder Concert is most appropriate for children ages 3-6 (Pre-K to First Grade) and is open to school groups and the public. School groups can download a reservation form www.cantonsymphony.org/kinder-concert) to receive a special rate of $4.10 per student. For every six children, one adult may attend for free.

Tickets for the Kinder Concert are $5, available online at www.CantonSymphony.org, by calling 330-452-2094, at the box office window located inside the Cultural Center for the Arts (weekdays 10am-2pm), or by walk-up. Dress is casual and concerts are appropriate for ages 3 and older.

Founded in 1937, the Canton Symphony Orchestra is a fully professional ensemble and organization dedicated to performing concerts that enrich, educate and entertain. Under the direction of Gerhardt Zimmermann, the orchestra performs classical, pops, holiday, and educational programs. For more information, please visitwww.CantonSymphony.org.
