The Boomerang Theatre Company Presents RICHARD III in Central Park, 6/22

The Boomerang Theatre Company (Tim Errickson, Artistic Director; Sue Abbott, Managing Director) will open their 2013 season with an outdoor production of Shakespeare's RICHARD III. The production will be directed by Philip Emeott, who will also play the title role. RICHARD III will perform June 22nd -July 14th, 2013 in Central Park. Admission is free. Richard Duke of Gloucester, born with a deformity he considers "not made to court the amorous looking glass", seduces and murders his way from courtier to King. With each sadistic move, Richard becomes the monster inside to match his grotesque physical form as he pursues the one thing he truly loves...becoming King RICHARD III.

RICHARD III features a cast of 20 actors: Kenneth Cavett, Nathan C. Crocker, Michael Lawrence Eisenstein, Philip Emeott, Breanna Foister, David Godbey, Susan Kirby, Sharina Martin, Haddon McKinney, Robert Meksin, Uriel Menson, Matthew Mezzacappa, Linda S. Nelson, David O'Hara, Ralph Petrarca, Michael Russinik, Ron Sanborn, Peter Quentin Smith, Thia Stephen and James T. Ware.

The creative team includes Sara Thigpen and Sarah Norris (Associate Directors), Samantha Newby (Costume Designer), Michael Lawrence Eisenstein (Fight Direction), Sara Slagle (Props Designer) and Creighton Irons (Musical Direction).

RICHARD III marks Boomerang's 15th consecutive year presenting free Shakespeare performances in New York City parks, and their twelfth production at the area of the park commonly known as "Boomerang Rock".

Philip Emeott has directed plays for numerous companies in New York City. His most recent production, Captain Ferguson's School for Balloon Warfare by Isaac Rathbone, was developed at Dixon Place and premiered at 59E59 before moving to the Edinburgh Festival in August 2012. Previous Boomerang productions include Uncle Vanya, The Comedy of Errors, King Lear, Dangerous Corner, A Midsummer Night's Dream and the world premiere of Parking Lot, Lonely Heart by Colin McKenna. As an actor, Emeott has been seen as Costard in Loves Labors Lost and The Douglas in Henry 4 Pt. 1 in Boomerang's outdoor productions, and received a New York Innovative Theatre Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor for Boomerang's award-winning production of Kelly McAllister's Burning the Old Man

Performance will run June 22nd-July 14th in Central Park, at 69th Street and Central Park West. Audiences should enter the park at 69th Street and follow the signs to the performance. All performances are Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 2pm. The schedule is as follows: June 22nd and 23rd, June 29th and 30th, July 6th and 7th, July 13th and 14th.

Admission is free, with no tickets or reservations required. Lawn seating available, blankets and chairs are welcome.

Boomerang's season continues in September 2013 with the world premiere of Johnna Adams' Lickspittles, Buttonholers and Damned Pernicious Go-Betweens, directed by John Hurley, the New York premiere of Jeffrey Hatcher's Too Fool the Eye, directed by Cailin Heffernan, and a revival of Shaw's Candida directed by Artistic Director Tim Errickson.

The Boomerang Theatre Company is an award-winning Off-Off-Broadway theatre company based in New York City. Boomerang annually produces a season composed of three programs: free outdoor Shakespeare productions in parks throughout NYC; an indoor repertory series of new, classic and neglected plays; and FIRST FLIGHT, a new play development festival of workshops and readings.

In the past fourteen years, the Boomerang Theatre Company has produced 51 full productions, including seven world premieres, seven New York City premieres and reinvented producing in repertory for small theatres. In 2008, the company was the recipient of the Caffe Cino Fellowship from the New York Innovative Theatre Awards for consistent production of outstanding work. Boomerang has been awarded two New York Innovative Theatre Awards for Burning the Old Man by Kelly McAllister (out of six nominations), a 2002 OOBR Award for The Misanthrope by Moliere, and was selected as a September 2005 recipient of The STAR Initiative from WNYC radio. The company also presented the United States premiere of Irvine ("Trainspotting") Welsh's You'll Have Had Your Hole in the NYC International Fringe Festival. Three new plays produced by Boomerang have been published in annual Plays and Playwrights anthologies.
