York College Blue Notes will swing into Louis Armstrong's Garden for their annual free big band concert on Saturday, August 4th at 2:00 pm.

Grab your friends, family and a picnic lunch and make a trip to the Louis Armstrong House Museum for an afternoon of live big band sounds.

This concert showcases musicians that have been studying at the York College Summer Jazz Program. This program, at York College, in Queens, New York is a tuition-free, audition-only jazz performance program for upper-level high school students.

This year, the York College Blue Notes were finalists in the Charles Mingus Competition, made their debut at St. Peter's Church (aka the Jazz Church) in Manhattan and received the Gold Award at this year's NYSSMA Festival at New York University.

This concert will highlight the day that is actually Louis Armstrong's birthday. Louis believed his birthday was July 4 his entire life and celebrated his birthday on that day. In 1987, years after the passing of Louis Armstrong, a researcher by the name of Tad Jones discovered a baptismal certificate documenting Louis's actual birthday.
