Variety reports that Taye Diggs and Anthony Mackie have been cast in an uncoming revival of Charles Fuller's play, "A Soldier's Story" which is set to open at Second Stage this fall. The show will be directed by Jo Bonney, and also featured in the cast will be Teagle Bougere, Michael Genet, Dorian Missick, and Steven Pasquale.

The Pulitzer Prize winning play first premiered in 1982, and tells the tale of an African-American lawyer involved in a murder-mystery investigation set in the 1940s. The mystery involves the murder of a drill instructor in charge of a black platoon, and fighting a variety of pressures from above and below the tale unravels.

The 1984 production was then turned into a film version which starred Denzel Washington and Harold E. Rollins. The original stage production featured Washington, and another future film star, Samuel L. Jackson. The film is currently available on DVD.

Taye Diggs is currently filming the Rent movie, and last appeared on stage in Wicked filling in for Norbert Leo Butz as Fiyero alongside wife Idina Menzel. Anthony Mackie last appeared on stage in Drowning Crow, the Regina Taylor play.

Previews begin on September 20th.
