"The King is dead, long live the King," is the traditional proclamation used in England when reigning monarchs, usually upon their demise, are replaced.

But then, Lin-Manual Miranda's Broadway smash HAMILTON is an American musical, so things are done a little differently.

When Jonathan Groff replaced Brian d'Arcy James as King George during the musical's Off-Broadway run, it was more like "The King is starting rehearsals to star on Broadway in SOMETHING ROTTEN!, long live the King.

Now, with Rory O'Malley prepared to take his first swing with the scepter at tonight's 7pm performance, those with enough breath are proclaiming, "The King must begin filming the lead role in David Fincher's new drama series for Netflix, "Mindhunter," long live the King."

Adorned as he once was by his royal robes, Jonathan Groff is the latest subject in HAMILTON's series of portraits taken by photographer Josh Lehrer using his 1839 lens.

Previous subjects for vintage Hamilton portraits include Ephraim Sykes as a wartime revolutionary (click here), Sydney Harcourt as James Reynolds (click here), Emmy Raver-Lampman as a wartime revolutionary (click here), Morgan Marcell as a wartime revolutionary (click here), Jasmine Cephas Jones as Maria Reynolds (click here) Carleigh Bettiol as a wartime revolutionary (click here), Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton (click here), Daveed Diggs asThomas Jefferson (click here), Andrew Rannells as King George III (click here), Christopher Jacksonas George Washington (click here), Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr(click here), Renee Elise Goldsberryas Angelica Schuyler (click here), Anthony Ramos as John Laurens (click here), Okieriete Onaodowanas James Madison (click here), Phillipa Soo as Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton (click here) and Javier Munoz as Alexander Hamilton (click here).
