THE LEGEND OF GEORGIA MCBRIDE Extends at Theatre Nova

Theatre NOVA, Ann Arbor's professional theatre with an exclusive focus on new plays and playwrights, has announced an extension of its smash hit "The Legend of Georgia McBride" by Matthew Lopez, the successful production transferred from The Ringwald Theatre in Ferndale.

The show was slated to run through July 2 but has been extended through July 9 due to full houses, glowing audience response, and critical acclaim.

"The Legend of Georgia McBride" will run through July 9, 2017 at Theatre NOVA (410 W. Huron, Ann Arbor). Show times are 8:00p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and Sunday matinees start at 2:00p.m. Theatre NOVA features free parking for patrons, as well as quick access to the city's restaurants, bars, bakeries, and coffee shops.

About the show: He's young, he's broke, his landlord's knocking at the door, and he's just found out his wife is going to have a baby. To make matters even more desperate, Casey is fired from his gig as an Elvis impersonator in a run-down, small-town Florida bar. When the bar owner brings in a B-level drag show to replace his act, Casey finds that he has a whole lot to learn about show business, walking in heels, and himself.

The production features Nick Yocum, Vince Kelley, Richard Payton, Meredith Deighton, and Joe Bailey and is directed by Brandy Joe Plambeck. The design team includes Stephen Carpenter (scenic design), Vince Kelley (costume design), Michael Ameloot (auxiliary costumes), Brandy Joe Plambeck (sound design), and Dan Walker (lighting design).

Matthew Lopez (PLAYWRIGHT) is the author of "The Whipping Man," one of the most celebrated and widely produced new American plays of the last decade. The Manhattan Theatre Club production received Obie, Lortel, and Outer Critics Circle awards including the John Gassner New Play Award. It has since been produced at over 100 U.S. theatres as well as internationally. "The Legend of Georgia McBride" premiered at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and ran off-Broadway at MCC Theatre in a production that received multiple Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, and Outer Critics Circle nominations, including Best Play. Other plays include "Somewhere" (Old Globe, world premiere), "Reverberation" (Hartford Stage Company, world premiere), "The Sentinels" (London's Headlong Theatre Company) and "Zoey's Perfect Wedding." Matthew holds commissions from Roundabout Theatre Company, Manhattan Theatre Club, South Coast Rep, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Hartford Stage Company, where he recently served as their AETNA New Voices Fellow. For the past two seasons, he has been the Inaugural Playwriting Fellow at the Denver Center Theatre Company. Matthew was a writer on the HBO series "The Newsroom" and has recently adapted Javier Marias' "Your Face Tomorrow" trilogy for the screen as well as the biopic "Dr. Q" for Disney.

BRANDY Joe Plambeck (DIRECTOR) loves bringing glitter and sass and heart to the shows he directs. Originally from Wyoming, Brandy Joe received a BA in Theatre from the University of Northern Colorado. Upon graduating, Brandy Joe traveled the country with a touring theatre company and not only learned the ins and outs of every aspect of theatrical production, but also met his husband, Sterling Heights native Joe Bailey, with whom he and other friends founded The Ringwald Theatre. Recently, Brandy Joe received a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Acting from The Hilberry Theatre at Wayne State.
