THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Blazes with $70.5M on Friday; On Track to Break November Record

Lionsgate's THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is igniting the box office this weekend, as predicted.

The sequel brought in $70.5 million on Friday, November 22, which puts the movie on track to gross around $150 million in the US and over $300 million worldwide, which would put it ahead of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON and match its predecessor, which opened to $142 million in 2012.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Woody Harrelson, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amanda Plummer, Lynn Cohen, Patrick St. Esprit, Meta Golding, Bruno Gunn, Alan Ritchson, E. Roger Mitchell, Maria Howell, Stephanie Leigh Schlund, Sam Claflin and Jeffrey Wright.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour' of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

DreamWorks Pictures' DELIVERY MAN, starring Vince Vaughn, also debuted this weekend. It sits at No. 4 with just $2.7 million on Friday and aims for an $8 million weekend. The film is written for the screen and directed by Ken Scott, based on "Starbuck," the original screenplay written by Ken Scott and Martin Petit, and also stars Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders.

DELIVERY MAN stars Vaughn as affable underachiever David Wozniak, whose anonymous donations to a fertility clinic 20 years earlier resulted in 533 children. David must now embark on a journey that leads him to discover not only his true self but also the father that he could become.
