The Bridge on the River Kwai is a classic war drama that pits two proud enemies against each other in a battle of honor and survival. In a prisoner-of-war camp in Burma, the camp commander Colonel Saito insists that British colonel Nicholson order his troops to build a bridge which will enable the Japanese to transport their munitions. Nicholson eventually agrees, determining that the British would prove superior by building the best bridge possible. The story’s climax adds unexpected punch to a stunning movie.
