Summer on The Hudson in Riverside Park Kicks Off August 2015 Lineup

NYC Parks and Summer on the Hudson (SOH) are euphoric for August's 2015 festival season schedule of free public events in Riverside Park and West Harlem Piers Park from 59th Street to 153rd Street. We're not out of summer season steam yet!

Playdates!, Harlem Dances, Freshen Up Friday and the fan favorite Sweet Spot Festival all bring fun to West Harlem Piers Park this month while in Riverside Park South the Pier i Picture Show continues screenings, The Chatsworth sponsored Picture Show Extension brings a bonus film, and Literary Lounge features Said Sayrafiezadeh who was short-listed for the 2014 PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for debut fiction.

Pier i Picture Show

Pack a picnic, bring a friend and settle in for a night of premier movies on the pier.

First two Wednesdays in August, 8-11:00pm in Pier i in Riverside Park South.

August 5: Moonrise Kingdom

August 12: Dr. Seuss' The Lorax

Tots Soccer and Pee Wee Basketball

All the little ones (5 and under) are welcome to enjoy learning the fundamentals of soccer and basketball.

Picture Show Extension

Bring a blanket and come over to the lawn for three films brought to you by The Chatsworth on 72nd St

FlyNYC Kite Flying Festival

Come fly a kite and enjoy some live music; perfect for all ages! Kite making kits will be provided for children. Musical entertainment includes: Bond Street Theatre Stilt Band, Big Apple Symphonic Band, Xylopholks, and Music With A Message.

Saturday, August 15 11am-4pm @Pier I in Riverside Park South

Literary Lounge

SOH and Lamprophonic team up to bring local writers of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction out into nature. Come hear a reading, a moderated discussion, and join in an open Q&A. An excerpt of the writer's work will be provided for digital download prior to each event at lamprophonic.com/literary-lounge/

Silent Disco

Party on the pier with hundreds at this quiet clubbing event! Two live DJ's will be spinning at the event, you can change tunes with a flick of a switch. Grab some headphones and drop in to your own personal music bubble with your friends! Headphones are first come first serve, the line will start at 4:30pm.

Tai Chi

Join Silvana Pizzuti to learn and practice Tai Chi, a slow moving martial art with health benefits for all fitness levels.

Summer on the Hudson and GRO Girls Skate Days

We encourage all girl riders to come out for this informal jam session and enjoy our scenic outdoor venue.

Saturday August 15, 3-6pm @ Skate Park at 108th in Riverside Park

Hudson Warehouse Shakespeare Workout

Come for an active class session and learn elements of voice production, acting, and stage combat. Open to ages 13 and up; register online athudsonwarehouse.net to attend.

Sweet Spot Festival

Summer on the Hudson partners with Musical Directions to bring you a collection of Reggae, Soulful House, Disco, and Afro-Beats spun by a collection of amazing DJs.

Game Days

Enjoy a sunny afternoon playing games such as giant tic-tac-toe, lawn bowling, and more! Great for all children 12 and under!

Tuesdays and Wednesdays in August 10am-2pm @ 125th &Marginal Sts.

Play Dates!

Come have a family and friends playdate at this outdoor kids party featuring arts & crafts, and neighborhood fun all day and a children's entertainer from2-3pm!

August 8 Sammie & Tudie : enjoy a thrill ride of fun at the Comedy Magic Circus

Harlem Dances

Wear dancing shoes and join different local companies as they demonstrate and teach new moves.

Third Friday of the month, 6-7pm - @ 125th &Marginal Sts.

August 21 The Hoop Movement: Learn hula hoop dance and wow your friends and family at this beginner friendly workshop.

Friday Freshen Up

Kick off the weekend with some fresh air while you drink in the sounds at this monthly musical get-happy hour.

Summer on the Hudson is Riverside Park's annual outdoor arts & culture festival that takes place from 59th Street to 153rd Street along the Hudson River and features a mix of music concerts, dance performances, movies showings, DJ dance parties, kids shows, special day long events, wellness activities, and more. All programs and events are free to the public and no registration is required unless noted. Summer on the Hudson is supported by the NYC Parks Department and the Riverside Park Conservancy.
