Strand-Capitol 'Strand Band' Surprises with 2013-14 Kick-Off Concert Downtown

Members of the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center's Strand Band entertained surprised onlookers today with a flash-style concert from the Strand-Capitol's marquee - overlooking George Street from 16 feet in the air. The surprise performance was to celebrate the kickoff of the Strand-Capitol's 2013-2014 lineup of shows, which begins on September 12 and continue through May.

The Strand Band consists of four volunteer supporters of the Strand-Capitol: Sabrina Duke, vocals; Steve Davis, lead guitar/backing vocals; Roy Smith, bass; and Andrey Lubimtsev, keyboards; as well as the Chairman of the Strand-Capitol Board of Directors, Joel Menchey on guitar/vocals; and the President/CEO of the Strand-Capitol, Ken Wesler, on the drums. This six-member band entertained a broad audience of downtown lunch goers including students from the New Hope School of the Arts who joined in on the festivities by dancing, recording and taking photos of the surprise event.

"We wanted to treat the downtown lunch crowd to some unique and unexpected entertainment in order to share our excitement about the upcoming 2013-2014 shows," said Ken Wesler, President/CEO of the Strand-Capitol. "With the 2013-2014 lineup starting next week, this was our way of celebrating what the next year has in store."

Last year, the Strand-Capitol featured 12 sold-out shows and the 2013-2014 show lineup is expected to receive the same excitement from the community. Showgoers can expect a dynamic mix of world-class entertainment featuring award-winning music icons, hilariously funny stand-up stars, family-friendly variety acts and more.
