Stage Left Studio presents Miss Mary Dugan and Margarita and Max, a staged reading of two award-winning plays by Manuel Igrejas. Directed by Robert Teague, the reading will feature Alex Beck, John Fico, Cheryl King & KC Weakley. It's all set for Sunday, February 1st at 7pm at Stage Left Studio, 214 W. 30th St. 6th floor. The 90 minute performance is a benefit for Stage Left Studio.

"I met Mr. Right a thousand times. I just never got his name."

Miss Mary Dugan (aka Ty Pendleberry) lives in Cedar Chips, New Jersey, a pretty little town he calls the West Hollywood of the East Coast. With his fabulous parties, Mary Dugan is "hostess with the most-ess" of gay Cedar Chips. He can cook and bake anything, from Chicken Divan to éclairs and his parties sometimes last all night long. Despite his charm and skills, Dugan hasn't had much luck with men, and many of his nights are spent alone with porn, Doritos and Stoli. He has a crush on the good-looking, mysterious guy next door. He lives next door to a funeral parlor. A chance encounter in the parking lot with Kevin, the object of his affection, throws him for a loop. It forces him to ask: what does he really want--his fantasy or the prospect of getting to know his hunky neighbor in real time?

Miss Mary Dugan was first presented at the 2009 Fresh Fruit Festival where it won the Best Play, Best Actor and Best Director Awards that year. Backstage called Miss Mary Dugan: "A charming metatheatrical diversion featuring two winning performances.... My biggest quibble is simply that I wanted to spend more time with these two men." KC Weakley will portray Mary Dugan and Alex Beck will be Kevin Pecinka for this reading.

A lonely woman. A windy day. A plastic bag: A love story

Margarita is having a rough time. She's unemployed, broke and newly unattached. She's on her way to catch a bus to New York City to interview for a menial job she probably won't get. She could use a miracle. A strong spring breeze blows one of those ubiquitous black plastic bags into her path...and into her life. This is no ordinary bag and this is no ordinary day. Margarita and Max won the Best Short Play, Best Actress and Best Director Awards at the 2013 Midtown International Festival.

Cheryl King will portray Margarita Mariposa and John Fico will be Max for this reading. Robert Teague recently directed Igrejas' No Strings Attached at Stage Left Studio.
