SpeakEasy Stage to Present NECESSARY MONSTERS, Begin. 12/5

Sex, mystery, and terrible danger lurk just around the corner in NECESSARY MONSTERS, a reality-bending new comedy by award-winning Boston playwright John Kuntz, debuting December 5, 2014 through January 3, 2015 at the Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts, 527 Tremont Street in Boston's South End.

Through a series of intricately connected stories, NECESSARY MONSTERS pulls us into the labyrinth of the human psyche for a darkly hilarious and dream-like look at the ways we do violence and the stories we create to keep us up at night.

Mr. Kuntz is the author of over fifteen full-length plays including The Hotel Nepenthe, The Salt Girl, and The Annotated History of the American Muskrat. He is the recipient of four Elliot Norton Awards, two IRNE Awards, a New York International Fringe Festival Award, and both the Michael Kanin and Paula Vogel National Playwriting Awards.

Mr. Kuntz will also appear in NECESSARY MONSTERS, joining an all-star Boston ensemble that includes Thomas Derrah, McCaela Donovan, Stacy Fischer, Evelyn Howe, Georgia Lyman, Greg Maraio, and Michael Underhill.

Norton Award-winner David R. Gammons, who collaborated with Mr. Kuntz on both The Salt Girl and The Hotel Nepenthe, will direct NECESSARY MONSTERS. Mr. Gammons' previous directorial efforts for SpeakEasy include the award-winning productions of Blackbird, Red, The Motherf**ker with the Hat, and The Whale, the last of which starred Mr. Kuntz.

The design team for NECESSARY MONSTERS includes Cristina Todesco (scenic), Elisabetta Polito (costumes), Jeff Adelberg (lighting) and a former student of Mr. Gammons - Adam Stone (video and sound design).

NECESSARY MONSTERS will run for five weeks, from December 5, 2014 through January 3, 2015, in the Roberts Studio Theatre in the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts, 527 Tremont Street in Boston's South End.
