SonicFest to Kick Off This Week at Cornelia Street Cafe

One of the many curated events at the Cornelia Street Café, the three day SonicFest, begins on August 16 at 8pm and continues through the 18th of August. Deborah Latz, herself a New York-based jazz singer/songwriter and arranger, is not only the curator of this event, but she is one of the performers.

August 16 at 8:00PM Polish singer Bogna Kicinska will unveil some of her newest compositions. Appearing with her on viola, Benjamin von Gutzeit, Kuba Cichocki on piano, Edward Perez on bass and Jimmy Macbride on drums

August 16 at 9:30PM Lisa Sokolov performs the song cycle of renowned bassist and composer, William Parker, accompanied by Cooper Moore on piano.

August 17 at 8:00PM, Aimua Eghobamien, described by JazzTimes as "...a true, thoroughly exciting original" vocalist will be joined on stage by Ben Zwerin on bass and Scott Neumann on drums.

August 17 at 9:30PM Deborah Latz creates a spontaneous sonic landscape when she performs with violinist Helen Yee and tap dancer Claudia Rahardjanoto.

August 18 at 8:00PM Carolyn Leonhart, winner of the Thelonious Monk Vocal Jazz Competition brings her versatility and soulful style, accompanied by Orrin Evans on piano.

August 18 at 9:30PM Michelle Walker & Opius Bliss take the stage for the final night of SonicFest. This eclectic band has grown a solid fan base with their mix of jazz, blues, soul, rock and funk in their repertoire. The group has performed on the same bill with Patti Austin, Kurt Elling, Monty Alexander, The Yellowjackets, Chris Botti, Sting and many,many more.
