Kim Gordon and Elissa Schappell will appear on February 24 at Strand from 7 to 8 PM.

Exclusively at Strand! Alternative icon Kim Gordon returns to Strand, this time for the release of her memoir Girl in a Band, which details not only the years of her life in Sonic Youth, but also illuminates up previously unlit parts of Gordon's life, from a childhood in California in the '60s and '70s through New York in the '80s and '90s. Girl in a Band also serves as a platform to discuss art, partnership, and dissolving identity like no other book since Patti Smith's Just Kids.

Kim will be in conversation with Brooklyn-based writer and Vanity Fair contributing editor Elissa Schappell, who also co-founded the literary magazine Tin House. Her most recent release Blueprints for Building Better Girls was declared "Best Book of the Year" by the San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Globe, Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and O Magazine.

Buy a copy of Girl in a Band or a $15 Strand gift card in order to attend this event. All options admit one person. Please note that payment is required for all online event orders at the time of checkout. The event will be located in the Strand's 3rd floor Rare Book Room at our store at 828 Broadway at 12th Street.
