After two consecutive sold-out engagements (2011 and 2012), Soledad Barrio and her company Noche Flamenca will return to The Joyce Theater this December. The company, which Barrio founded in 1993 with her husband Artistic Director Martín Santangelo, performs flamenco in its finest and most authentic form, one that creates a true communal spirit through exuberant music, dance and song. This year's program, an evening entitled Sombras Sagradas (Sacred Dreams), consists of several solos, duets and group numbers performed by Barrio and her dancers. The program includes eight separate music and dance vignettes, with a connective theme that encompasses the varied emotions of our own sacred dreams, including the world premiere of El Cazador, a duet based on Chekhov's The Huntsman, about two people's yearning to liberate themselves from the world in which they live, choreographed by Soledad Barrio, Martín Santangelo and Juan Ogalla, and performed by Barrio and Ogalla. Sombras Sagradas (Sacred Dreams) also includes Amanecer (Dawn),performed by the full company with choreography by Santangelo; Solo de Guitarra, performed by Eugenio Iglesias & Salva de María; Farruca, performed by Juan Ogalla; Siguiriya, performed by Soledad Barrio; and Esta Noche No Es Mi Dia (Tonight Ain't My Day), a tribute to the recently deceased former Noche Flamenca member Antonio Vizarriaga. The piece is performed by the entire company and features choreography by Santangelo.

The live ensemble of extraordinary musicians and passionate singers will return. This season, however, Manuel Gago and Jose Jimenez, the male vocalists who audiences have fallen in love with in the past, will be joined for the first time ever by two of Spain's most popular, highly acclaimed female vocalists, Carmina Cortes and Mayte Maya. The mixed quartet of singers will be accompanied by the dazzling guitarists Salva de María and Eugenio Iglesias.

Performances for Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca will be Tuesday & Wednesday at 7:30pm, Thursday & Friday at 8:00pm, Saturday at 2:00pm & 8:00pm, and Sunday at 2:00pm. Dance Chat, a free post-performance talkback with Soledad Barrio, will take place on Wednesday, December 4. This enlightening discussion is open to all patrons attending that evening's performance. Tickets are $10-$59 ($26-$44 for Joyce members) and can be arranged by calling JoyceCharge at 212-242-0800 or online at www.joyce.org. Please note: ticket prices are subject to change.
