Significant Names in Alternative Rock, Roots and Power Pop Perform Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band

Iconic vocalists and Art of Time's world-class orchestra collaborate to perform Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in the Leighton Concert Hall on Sunday, October 9 at 3:00 p.m.
Led by internationally renowned concert pianist Andrew Burashko, Toronto's Art of Time Ensemble has, for over 15 years, redefined the classical music experience. Fusing high art and popular culture in programs that juxtapose the best of each genre, Art of Time entertains as it enlightens, revealing the universal qualities that lie at the heart of all great music.
Steven Page (founder and former lead of the iconic band Barenaked Ladies) and Wesley Stace (AKA John Wesley Harding) join singers Andy Maize (Skydiggers) and Craig Northey (The Odds) in a re-imagining of the Beatles' groundbreaking album, which was released in 1967. One part tone poem, one part rock opera, Sgt. Pepper is a cornerstone of rock & roll history. Songs including "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," "When I'm Sixty-Four," and "With a Little Help from My Friends" are treated to new arrangements that affectionately celebrate the music while preserving the vocal harmonies and musical elements that earned its designation by Rolling Stone as "the most important rock & roll album ever made."
Steven Page's distinctive and powerful tenor is among the most immediately familiar voices in popular music today. The singer/songwriter continues his artistic evolution in collaborations with Art of Time Ensemble and a diverse array of solo projects. Those include his critically acclaimed album Page One, his Genie-nominated track, "A Different Sort of Solitude," featured in the film French Immersion, and his composition "A New Shore"-the theme for the 2014 CBC miniseries Best Laid Plans. Page is working on new material set for release later this year.
Artistic Director Andrew Burashko has said, "I've been crazy about The Beatles' music since ever since I was a kid. The aim was to experiment with Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band while staying absolutely true to album's genius-an enticing challenge, given how dearly fans of The Beatles hold the original music. In a process that's become characteristic of Art of Time, I delegated each of the tracks on Sgt. Pepper to an arranger whose sensibilities felt in tune with the song. We've embroidered upon the music, pushing the boundaries of the songs without altering the brilliant melodies and harmonies that lie at their core."
