Shakespeare's Sister Company artistic director, Kris Lundberg, speaks with Anthoula Katsimatides on Anthoula's radio program "Color Your Life" premiering Thursday, September 5th at 7pm EST on WNYE 91.5 FM about SSC's five year anniversary production of "Romeo & Juliet", which speaks to today's economic climate and furthering women's rights. William Shakespeare's epic tragedy will be set in the roaring 1920's of Chicago when gang rivalries arose over power struggles within the underworld culture.

In Shakespeare's Sister Company's production, the Capulets represent the Italian south side and the Montagues, the Irish north side. Underground Speakeasies provide a mysterious escape from the strict laws of prohibition. With a high unemployment rate leading toward the Great Depression, desperate people take desperate measures to maintain jobs. Women have gained the right to vote, but there is much to fight for in this patriarchal culture.

Formed in 2008, the Shakespeare's Sister Company is a not-for-profit dedicated to empowering women through the theater in education and performance. Founder,Kris Lundberg, has spent the past thirteen years advocating for progressive women's rights of female performers and educational advancement for all children.
