Seattle Public Theater to Present Jacqueline Goldfinger's SLIP/SHOT, 9/25-10/12

Seattle Public Theater (SPT) presents the Pacific Northwest premiere of Jacqueline Goldfinger's explosive and poignant play, Slip/Shot directed by 2014 Gregory Award nominee, Kelly Kitchens.

Winner of the Brown Martin Award and the Barrymore Award for Outstanding New Play, Slip/Shot takes us to racially divided Tallahassee of 1963, where a white security guard accidentally kills an innocent young black man. America's legacy of racism and gun violence take a seat at the table in this haunting and lyrical story that is as vital now as ever.

"Though Slip/Shot is set 50 years ago on the other side of the country, some of the lines spoken by the characters in the play are the same words I hear spoken on the streets of Ferguson, and even here in Seattle," says SPT Artistic Director, Shana Bestock. ?"It's a play about the weight of our history and the promise of our future. At this present moment, I am grateful for Goldfinger's Slip/Shot-a beautiful play and artistic tour-de-force that gives shape and coherence to many of the thoughts and feelings swirling in our society today. The ferocity of the characters' strength and the authenticity of Goldfinger's poetic voice are touchstones that help me frame my questions at hand for today's tangle of events."

"Slip/Shot is a play about fear, violence, and our need to move forward," says director and SPT Artistic Associate, Kelly Kitchens. "A few weeks before rehearsals began for the Slip/Shot world premier, Trayvon Martin was shot in Sanford, Florida. Now a few weeks before we start rehearsals for our production, the tragedy of Michael Brown's shooting in Ferguson, Missouri is unfolding. The grainy, black and white pictures that appear in my news feed are hard to distinguish from those that appeared in papers in the 1960s. It is imperative that we actively seek the answers to the questions this play raises on how we, as individuals and as a nation, change the path of our future so mothers and fathers don't have to be afraid when their children walk out of their homes."

Directed by Kelly Kitchens (Book-It Repertory Theatre's She's Come Undone and SPT's Arcadia), Slip/Shot features the acting talents of Treavor Boykin (Book-It Repertory Theatre's The Financial Lives of the Poets and ACT's A Year Like No Other), Faith Russell (Taproot Theatre Company's Brownie Points and Re-Act's Picnic), Jocelyn Maher (2014 Gregory Award nominee for Book-It Repertory Theatre's She's Come Undone), Quinn Armstrong (Seattle Children's Theatre's Danny, King of the Basement and ACT's A Night of One Acts ) Trevor Cushman (Book-It Repertory Theatre's She's Come Undone and Re-Act's Picnic), Roy Stanton (LiveGirls!
