Savior, a new play by Daniel R. O'Brien, will be presented as part of the sixth annual Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival, beginning July 19th at 9:30 PM at the Workshop Theatre (312 W. 36th St); the play will run through August 7th.

Directed by Christopher Carter Sanderson, Savior is produced by Tragicomic Theatre productions. "A darkly humorous and moving portrait of urban adults, Savior is set in downtown Manhattan, and focuses on a contemporary family. Patrick (Jy Murphy) is in a bind: his wife Katie (Hilary Howard) wants kids, and his alcoholic movie star brother Kevin (Jeff Barry) wants the truth about their childhood," according to a press release.

The play was previously produced in May 2004 by Beth O'Neill at the Manhattan Ensemble Theatre at 55 Mercer St., on a 17-show Equity Showcase run.

Barry's recent credits include: Of Girl And Wolf (Guthrie Theater), Comedy of Errors (Yale Rep), Funeral Games (Yale Cabaret), 5, 4, 3, 2, One (LaVie Productions), Angels in America (National Theatre Institute), The Tragedy of Tom Thumb the Great and Comedy of Errors (Dorset Theatre Festival). Howard has played Masha in Chekhov's Seagull at Nada Show World, Dorie in Bronwen Denton-Davis's Book of Wren at the Miranda Theater and Susan Walker in Once in a Lifetime at the Terry Schreiber Studio. Murphy most recently performed for three years in De La Guarda, and before that two years Off-Broadway in The Countess. He is a founding member and president of Gorilla Repertory Theater Company.

O'Brien co-founded High Noon Productions, which produced his plays Guernica, Night Bus, Cheap Laughs, and other works in repertory at the Broome Street Theatre and the TriBeCa Lab. His play, Full Tilt: A Love Story was recently produced at the Greenwich Street Theater. Other productions include Guernica, which was produced by Actors Theatre of Louisville; the Eclipse Theatre, Chicago; and by the Relentless Theatre Company in Los Angeles, earning favorable mention by the Chicago Tribune
and high praise from the L.A. Weekly. His full-length play Delirium was produced at the Theater Off Park and by the Village Theater Company. Other plays have been developed by the Working Theater Company, La Mama, MCC Theatre, and Naked Angels.

Sanderson founded New York's Gorilla Repertory Theater Company in 1992. He is the author of "Gorilla Theatre" (Routledge 2003) and "Three From Gorilla Rep: Collected Adaptations for the Theater" (2006 Routledge). Sanderson has directed over 60 productions in New York, including ten seasons of A Midsummer Night's Dream in Washington Square Park. At the Yale School of Drama, Mr. Sanderson directed the new plays Bridesburg and The Special Interest Case of Special Agent Esteban Martinez, both by Victor Kaufold.
