The San Diego Theatre Connection asks the question, "Could your story change a life?". This Sunday, May 21, 2017, 6:30-8:00 p.m. the Creating Community Performance Event features personal stories told through prose, poetry, comedy, song, and music. Invited performers will present original works in 5-7 minutes. The evening's theme is inspired by the classic John Lennon lyrics and song, Imagine. Imagine creating a community where all are welcomed.

The program includes stories told by Rodina, the Iranian refugee lesbian with a homophobic family, Judith, offering a sample from her one-woman show about her family drowning in addictions, and Marcel, the heart-broken father healing from his twin daughter's suicide. Music genres range from heavy metal to acoustic guitar. There is also stand up comedy and a performance from Kia, the single mom success story, Sunny, the no-holds-barred poet with gritty, powerful verse, Solan, the young man developing his own definition of masculinity and Melissa, who turned resentment into gratitude over her disability.

The Creating Community Performance Event takes place at North Park's Neighborhood venue, The Irenic at 3090 Polk Avenue, San Diego, CA 92104. This event is free to the public and serves as a "pay-what-you-can" fundraiser for Urban Street Angels, the only emergency shelter in San Diego County for homeless youth (www.urbanstreetangels.org). Donations of any amount accepted at the time of performance.
