The film is a re-imagining of the 16th President's life that depicts him as an axe-throwing, highly accomplished killer of vampires - an obsession of his since a supernatural creature took the life of his mother. Lincoln eventually learns that the vampires have fled to the southern states of the U.S. and are scheming to conquer and enslave the entire country. This event leads to the Civil War between the Union and the Confederacy, the latter of which the vampires are aligned.

Walker's Broadway credits include the 2007 Broadway revival of Inherit the Wind opposite two-time Tony Award winners Christopher Plummer and Brian Dennehy. In 2008, Walker appeared as the Chevalier Danceny in the Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses; he also starred in the title role of The Public Theater's 2010 Broadway production of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.
