Pop Up Playhouse, Abingdon Theatre's reading series for family audiences, continues in 2013 with SMALL FISH, a new puppet operetta, on Saturday, January 5, at 11 a.m. at Abingdon Theatre Company, 312 West 36th Street, 1st floor, between 8th and 9th Avenues. Tickets are free.

SMALL FISH features music by Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls, The Tap Dance Kid); libretto and puppets by Susan J. Vitucci; direction by Jules Ochoa (How I Fell in Love); and musical direction by Ben Krauss.

In SMALL FISH, its puppet star, La Pulcina Piccola, international chicken of adventure and the bravest, boldest, most daring chicken that ever lived, follows her heart to the ends of the earth and beyond in her eternal quest for love.

Performed in English, SMALL FISH features live music and video of the Clothespin Repertory Theatre puppets.

SMALL FISH is a companion piece to Krieger and Vitucci's previous collaboration, the acclaimed LOVE'S FOWL, which played at New York Theatre Workshop and at venues around the country including the Spoleto Festival.

SMALL FISH has been workshopped at New York Theatre Workshop and Philadelphia's 1812 Productions.

Storytime Saturdays offers original full-length fairytales for older children. Adaptations and orginial work, these tales will be presented as staged readings with music, masks and puppetry to enhance the language.
