Pittsburgh CLO has announced the Pittsburgh CLO premiere of Side by Side by Sondheim at the CLO Cabaret May 23 - August 18. The sophistication, wit, insight, heart and genius of Broadway's most innovative and influential artist is at the center of this tribute to composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim - a perfect introduction to the work of the contemporary master and a must for die-hard fans. Following Side by Side by Sondheim will be the eagerly-anticipated return of Defending the Caveman, back by popular demand after a sell-out run at the Cabaret in 2011. Tickets for Groups of 10 or more are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 412-325-1582. Single tickets will go on sale in February.

A dazzling array of Sondheim's best-known songs, Side by Side by Sondheim features music from shows that revolutionized musical theater with their masterful craft and astounding creativity, including: Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Anyone Can Whistle and Pacific Overtures, not to mention the classics written with musical theatre giants Leonard Bernstein, Jule Styne and Richard Rodgers, Gypsy and Do I Hear a Waltz? Also included are delectable rarities from the television musical "Evening Primrose," the film The Seven Percent Solution and the hit revue The Mad Show.

Defending the Caveman

Whether you're in a relationship or know someone in a relationship, Defending the Caveman is the show for you. "Caveman" will have both sexes roaring with laughter and nudging each other affectionately as they recognize themselves in the stories being told on stage. No topic is untouched as this one-man tour-de-force tackles contemporary feminism, masculine sensitivity and even the erogenous zone!

Since 1946, the Pittsburgh CLO has been the driving force behind live musical theater in Pittsburgh and the entire Southwestern Pennsylvania region. Under the direction of Van Kaplan since 1997, this not-for-profit arts organization appreciates the support of nearly 200,000 patrons each year and produces a subscription series, educational programs, national tours and develops and invests in new works, including 13 Broadway shows(13 Tony Awards) including the recent productions of Catch Me If You Can and The Addams Family. Its dedication to the musical theater art form extends to include such programs as the CLO Academy, the CLO Mini Stars, the Gene Kelly Awards, the Richard Rodgers Award, the National High School Musical Theater Awards, the Construction Center for the Arts and the CLO Cabaret.
