Music Director George Rothman will lead Riverside Symphony in the opening concert of the orchestra's 30th-anniversary season on Saturday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall.

The program will begin with Robert Schumann's thrilling yet seldom-heard "Genoveva Overture" in a bicentennial nod to the great Romantic composer. Performing in his New York concerto debut, Israeli cello sensation Amit Peled will then take center stage in Hindemith's rarely performed Cello Concerto, considered by Tortelier among the most important works in the cello concerto repertoire. The New York premiere of "Laconika," a stunning new work by Grawermeyer-Prize winner George Tsontakis will be followed by Sibelius's cult masterpiece Symphony No. 7, reprised from the orchestra's very first Alice Tully Hall performance in 1987.

Mr. Peled is described by American Record Guide as "Having the flair of a young Rostropovich." He is a professor at the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University and performs widely in recital and with orchestras in major concert halls in North America, Europe and Israel.

This concert is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council on the Arts.
