Barrel Fever, Holidays on Ice, Naked and many other bestsellers are just some of the titles penned by David Sedaris aka the 'rock star of authors'. This international best-selling writer will be at The Ridgefield Playhouse for a comedic performance on Monday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m.

David will read from his works -- published and unpublished -- and the audience will have a chance to ask David questions and hear him share his comedic take on what other people call dark and despairing. A book signing will take place in the lobby following his show and will feature, along with his books, copies of David Sedaris' "Recommended Book, Fall 2014" This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage by Ann Patchett. Sedaris's 2010 Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary immediately hit the NYT Bestseller Fiction List. For a fine night out, Bernard's (20 West Lane, Ridgefield; reservations suggested) is offering a $45 prix-fixe menu or a complimentary glass of wine with dinner before this event when tickets are presented. Books on the Common (404 Main St., Ridgefield) will be selling David Sedaris books in the Playhouse lobby at this event as well as in their store -- Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family, Holidays on Ice and other titles. This show is partially underwritten by Books on the Common with support from Ridgefield Library and is part of the Moffly Media Entertaining Conversations Series with media sponsor WSHU 91.1fm.

An American humorist, comedian, author, and radio contributor who was nominated for a Grammy Award, Sedaris is known for his sardonic wit and incisive social critique which paved the way for him to become one of America's pre-eminent humor writers. Much of Sedaris's humor is autobiographical and self-deprecating, and often concerns his middle-class upbringing in the suburbs of Raleigh, North Carolina, his Greek heritage and more.

For tickets ($75 orches., $65 mezz.), call the box office (203) 438-5795, or order online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a not-for-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT; ridgefieldplayhouse.org.
