Richard McCabe Reveals He Was Offered Role in WOLF HALL on Broadway

Richard McCabe, who took home the 2015 Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for his role as Prime Minister Harold Wilson in THE AUDIENCE tonight, revealed he could have ended up in another Broadway show this year.

Speaking to the press after he accepted his Tony, McCabe confirmed he was offered the role of 'Cromwell' in WOLF HALL when it was originally planning its New York transfer. He was ultimately encouraged by producers to stick with Helen Mirren and THE AUDIENCE - where the productions ended up going up against each other during this season.

"[THE AUDIENCE] had been very good to me...so I decided to stick with it!" he said.

The advice seems to have paid off!

McCabe re- joined THE AUDIENCE after the London production for which he won an Olivier award for best supporting actor.
