Author Rich Okun has spent his life studying many different ancient spiritual belief systems. Each one has further motivated him with spirit to help more people and now to share, what he calls, "a very special being: Maya, his Shih Tzu puppy muse." Okun's new book, "The Sun, the Moon, the Stars and Maya: a collection of little sayings about enormous things" (published by Balboa Press), is his way of helping the world understand enormous ideas though simple interpretations.

The book houses a collection of little sayings, made up of spiritual quotes aimed to inspire and short, lyrical interpretations. With each quote, a beautifully illustrated depiction of Maya, suggests what the reader is supposed to have gotten from the lyric. Both have been created in such a way as to engage and allow the reader to come to those conclusions and to stimulate imagination and conversation. "It is taking storytelling to the next level," states the author.

Each lyric touches on a moral or spiritual issue related to love, compassion, spirit, infinity, friendship, gratitude, generosity, nature, and, as the author puts it, "so much more." It is his hope that these lyrics "will be used to help discuss these important matters with children or to touch the child within the adult."

An excerpt from" The Sun, the Moon, the Stars and Maya":

"'And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom' said Anais Nin. 'I like it here, it's so nice and warm. I feel I could disappear, turn it into an art form. It's only when, we feel the pull, overcome, the now and then, and stop the bull,' replied Maya."
