Rebecca Luker announced on the Tonys red carpet tonight: "I'll be doing THE LITTLE DANCER musical at The Kennedy Center in about a year and a half."

According to the AP, the show is inspired by a Degas sculpture called "Little Dancer Aged Fourteen", and features book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, with music by Stephen Flaherty and direction and choreography by Susan Stroman.

The musical is aiming for an October 2014 premiere and follows a ballerina who posed for painter Edgar Degas who eventually becomes the world's most famous dancer.

Luker has appeared on Broadway in Mary Poppins, Children and Art, Nine, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, Something Wonderful, Show Boat, The Secret Garden, The Phantom of the Opera, Leave It to Jane and more.
