Rebecca Gilman's Ibsen Reinvention DOLLHOUSE Set for The Acting Company's Salon Series

The Acting Company will continue its 2016-2017 John McDonald Salon Series with Rebecca Gilman's Dollhouse, a contemporary Ibsen reinvention of A Doll's House set in modern-day Chicago, on Monday, April 24th at 7 PM at the Pearl Theatre, 555 West 42nd St. between 10th and 11th Aves., New York, NY.

Adapted from Ibsen's masterpiece A Doll's House, Rebecca Gilman brings Nora and her family into our century in modern-day Chicago. Replete with social satire and powerful humanity, Dollhouse reunites The Acting Company with one of the country's leading dramatists. Gilman's previous collaborations with The Acting Company include world premiere productions of Desire and the stage adaptation of Carson McCullers's The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.

Acting Company Artistic Director Ian Belknap directs a cast led by real-life couple Megan Bartle (Acting Company's Desire) as Nora Helmer and Chris Thorn (Pig Iron's Twelfth Night) as Terry Helmer. They will be joined by Laura Borgwardt, Angela Janas (Acting Company's Macbeth), Julie Jesneck (Rock 'n Roll), Bhavesh Patel (Present Laughter) and Tony Roach (Bright Star).

The Salon Reading Series will conclude May 15th with rising playwright Meg Miroshnik's Lady Tattoo, presented at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theatre at the West Side YMCA.

2017 marks the 21st year of The Acting Company's John McDonald Salon Reading Series. The Salon Series offers New York audiences a range of works that are thematically linked to the company's repertory season, rarely produced, or provide a first opportunity to see new plays and other works that are being considered for future production. Previous titles include last season's Present Laughter starring Kevin Kline, a precursor to the current Broadway production.

The Acting Company recently concluded a national repertory tour featuring the world premiere of X: Or, Betty Shabazz v. The Nation by Marcus Gardley and a new production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. The tour played nearly 60 performances across the country and Off-Broadway at The New Victory Theater, where the pairing was heralded as "stroke of curatorial inspiration" by the New York Times.

Founded by John Houseman and Margot Harley in 1972, The Acting Company has toured to 48 states and 10 foreign countries, reaching more than 4 million people with 143 classic and new works while earning a Tony Award for Excellence in Theater, Obies, Audelcos and Los Angeles Critics Circle Awards.
