Reading Theater Project Brings New Piece of Theater to New York City Today

The Reading Theater Project is creating an original piece of theater in response to drawings about identity and breaking stereotypes by local visual artist Pamela Shields. Performance in New York City will take place at the Ceres Gallery at 547 W 27th St # 201, New York, NY 10001 today, Feb 15, 2014 at 3pm.

The performance piece will respond to Shields' large-scale charcoal drawings of "monumental, weighty figures, complete with cellulite and folds of fat, that confront and question what is considered 'acceptable' and 'normal'." Reading Theater Project performing artists work collaboratively to create a new piece of theater; musicians, writers, and performers have developed a series of short, personal pieces that will link together to create a performance.

The Reading Theater Project and Shields are organizing a bus trip so Berks County residents can see their work and enjoy a day in New York City. Participants will meet at the TEA Factory (580 Willow Street, Reading, PA 19602) at 8am on Saturday, February 15, to depart for NYC and return by 10pm that evening. The bus will drop off and pick up at the Ceres Gallery. Participants can enjoy Chelsea on their own and see the Reading Theater Project performance at 3pm. The Ceres Gallery is open from 12pm to 6pm.
